Federica Putelli: discovering elegance and photographic experimentation<\/h2>\n

Just as Ezra Pound was thunderstruck by the wisdom of Confucius, Federica Putelli was captivated by the pages of a fashion magazine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I said to myself, I want to do this’.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

At the time, she attended the Free Academy of Fine Arts in Brescia (Laba), where photographic experimentation flowed like a trickle alongside the river of painting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

‘I always liked photography but I never thought I would end up being a fashion photographer’.\u00a0<\/span>On the website, no biography.<\/span><\/p>\n

“To me, it makes no sense for a photographer to use words to explain what he did, where he lived”.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Federica has her specific ideas, she goes her own way. Even if they may be unpopular with the standard bearers of inclusion at all costs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“I am of the opinion that fashion photography embodies the dream, I love the expression of physical beauty in this world that I consider elitist”.<\/span><\/p>\n

So no emblem of ‘diversity’ in the fashion context?
\n<\/b>In life I am absolutely inclusive, I do not judge and I do not define. But I find the choice to bring fashion down the dream step meaningless. Fashion sells a lifestyle and exclusivity, we want it because it is unaffordable.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So in your opinion this is the reason why in the fashion context some initiatives have been extemporaneous?
\n<\/b>We sell a lifestyle. The big brands are only accessible to a high-end target group…marketing and advertising are aimed at selling a lifestyle and an ideal. But this is nothing new, I think it is arrogant to try to change it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the essays that came out at the high school graduation there was one on imperfection, what do you think?
\n<\/b>I have never had a tendency to retouch my images too much. We are in a historical period where imperfection is cool and inclusive. I have never changed my style too radically but the photographic direction evolves with the cultural background.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today the term imperfection is used to feel inclusive. I believe that everyone should have equal rights and opportunities, this does not mean abandoning realism. Some sectors are elitist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is your expressive register? What attracts you?
\n<\/b>I love shooting women’s fashion, transforming and enhancing models excites me. I hate trashy images or images that mortify the subject. One of the most exciting moments for me is bringing the concept and storyboard of the shoot to life, creating the idea, leafing through art books, watching movies, observing colours. Communication with the team is crucial, if there is a lack of synergy the images suffer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of your beauties look pigmented….
\n<\/b>It is the magic of make-up. I love shooting details of flowers and objects, while looking for the right shot I can imagine a facial detail with the same texture or colours. I love beauty and the body, focusing on the facial expression and its details.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you work mostly in Italy or abroad?
\n<\/b>Currently abroad. It is very stimulating because each country has its own market and its own aesthetics and I have a thirst for knowledge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Analog magic or AI fascination?
\n<\/b>Analogue photography has an incomparable appeal, but we cannot stop the evolution. Just as digital has entered our lives, AI will become part of our future. The artist will always remain an artist, whatever medium he or she wishes to use.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In any case, creating an image of a certain level with AI is a complex process. In addition to the idea, photographic, artistic and computer skills are needed to achieve an excellent result..\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Could AI replace a photographer?
\n<\/b>AI will change the way we work but, as experience shows, new jobs will be created. Unfortunately, human relations will suffer. Connected creative thinking is wonderful.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
